There will be rest
In autumn 2013 I performed Frank Ticheli's "There will be rest" with the Rhineland-Palatinate Youth Choir, a beautiful piece with an even more beautiful text by Sara Teasdale, who has been my favorite poet ever since. After working with the youth choir, I decided to write a setting of this text myself. It was the first poem by Sara Teasdale that I set to music. Since then I have set many more of her texts to music.
The recording is from Christmas 2013, when I sang the piece with my siblings at Christmas mass. The piece is one of my most popular composition and has been performed many times in and around Mainz, Germany.
"There will be rest" (von Sara Teasdale):
There will be rest, and sure stars shining
Over the roof-tops crowned with snow,
A reign of rest, serene forgetting,
The music of stillness, holy and low.
I will make this world of my devising
Out of a dream in my lonely mind.
I shall find the crystal of peace, - above me
Stars I shall find.
