O magnum mysterium 2
This piece is my second setting of the O magnum mysterium text. It was written in 2016 for a concert with the ensemble Liedertafel, with whom I premiered the piece that same year.
This setting is harmonically more complex than O magnum mysterium 1. The focus is more on the mystery side of the text than the joyful Christian message. This results in more unusual harmonies and difficult transitions. Nevertheless, the piece is still quite manageable for amateur choirs.
O magnum mysterium
et admirabile sacramentum
ut animalia viderent Dominum natum
jacentem in praesepio.
Beata Virgo, cujus viscera meruerunt
portare Dominum Christum.
Alleluia.
Translation:
O great mystery,
and wonderful sacrament,
that animals should see the newborn Lord,
lying in a manger!
O blessed virgin, whose womb
was worthy to bear
the Lord Jesus Christ.
Alleluia!
