Laudate Dominum

I wrote this piece in 2011 for my father's 50th birthday, who wanted my three siblings and me to sing something together for him.

The piece is stylistically based on a Renaissance motet: The first part mainly consists of a theme that runs through all the voices and that I personally liked so much that I also used it again in a few other pieces. This polyphonic section is repeated once, with a homophonic section in between that contains a distant quote from my Ave Maria, which remains one of my father's favorite pieces to this day.

Finally, the second part is a real, four-part fugue and contrasts strongly with the first part in terms of rhythm, tempo and harmony.
